It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like........... that 'C' word.

I have been craving spring for quite some time. I don't mind winter if it is covered with snow but a grey, brown, cold winter........ not so much. For several weeks it has been just that. Grey, brown, and cold. Very cold. Every once in awhile there will be a few days of sunshine and warmer temperatures. Teasers. Then we plummet back down in temperatures. Makes a body yearn for spring.

This morning I awoke to this. Can I tell you something? Don't laugh okay?

I wanted to run downstairs, put up a Christmas tree, and throw presents under it! Better yet, I wanted to run downstairs and see a Christmas tree up with presents already wrapped and under it. Like when I was a kid.

The snow makes me happy. I want to put on my Bogs and run outside in the snow in my jammies and build a snowman. I almost did too! Except the couch is so selfish and before I could roll the first ball of snow it yanked me right back and so here I sit.

But! Not before getting a few snap shots of these. I had to redeem myself after how many posts about me ripping out knitted projects? I can finish something. A pair of socks and a stripey baby hat from left over yarn from other projects which I did, in fact, finish, and not rip out.

When I first started knitting, the people at the yarn shop told me I would love knit socks. I pffft them. When I can go and buy perfectly yummy socks from the store for way less money and time, why in the world would I knit socks? They told me that once I wore hand knit socks, I wouldn't go back to store bought. Well! I'd show them! I knit a pair, I wore them, and then I knit another pair......... I am so not used to being wrong! Hee

I've knit several pairs now.......

  1. Yeah. I STILL pfff them. I have enough stuff I have to be careful of conserving - but wow. Yes. The very thought of running downstairs and FINDING a Christmas tree, lit and with presents all ready. Fun without my engineering it? I sit down, hand over my heart. What an incredible concept. That's why I go to Disneyland, really - because they have come up with all the delights, make them, clean them up and all I have to do is be a kid. But your socks are fab (HOW can you stand making them so long????) and the hat - kiss kiss.

  2. I am not a huge fan of snow but I must admit that today it was a welcome sight that gave my heart a little lift.

Those knitting projects are awesome! You have serious talent.

  4. So I've never knit socks! I've knit *a* sock, but never the second sock. Mittens, yes. Fingerless gloves. Sleeves. But not the socks! I see cute ones all the time!! I need to bite the bullet and just do it! Yours are adorable. So...do you knit with magic loop, or one double-pointed needles? Two at a time or one?

  6. Jody, Later next week we'll be in the 50's as well. I've several Native's home sick and some that toughed it out at school. Gunk season has hit. I'll get back to the sweater. Thanks for the encouragement.

Kristen, Disneyland. I went once. When I was 13. Would be fun to go again. The Native's think they are the only kids in the entire world who haven't ever gone.

The socks are long because I like long socks. I wear boots. Ya gotta see the socks over the boots! :D

Gerb, Especially right now I would think getting around in the snow would be hateful for you. Then again, I've always said, if I were to have surgery or need to be down, let it be in the winter because in the summer I want to be up and out and playing.... should have taken my own advice last year when I got my hyster.....

Scarf Kid, I hated weeding as a kid too. Now I like it. As long as it isn't in the heat of the day...

Korrie, They are easy. Seriously. I knit them on three double pointed needles. I've been shown the magic loop but I am so used to the dpn's that I just use them. I knit them one at a time BUT I want to learn how to do two at once so that I know for sure they are the same size. :) I try to count every stitch but you know how that goes.... My mom bought a book on knitting two at once. I want to borrow it from her. I'll let you know when I do and what I think. Knitting sweater sleeves at the same time would be good too for the same reason.

Hanna, Next week the snow will all be gone and then we can cross our fingers again that spring might spring its magical self.

  7. Wow, what GORGEOUS snow! I can't begin to imagine it. Here in south Louisiana we're sweating through Carnival season with warmer than usual weather for this time of year. Flowers have bloomed early and are beautiful. Streetcars rumble by packed with locals and tourists wearing shorts and tank tops, on their way to the parades. My handknits don't get much wear here!

  8. Lisa, Now see? This is exactly what I mean. I sit and complain about the snow but then I think of the summer and places like your southern Louisiana in the middle of the summer when I'll be craving the cold again. I just can't be satisfied! LOL! With all of the snow we have, it is hard to imagine that you are in tank top and shorts weather! I would imagine your hand knits not getting much use. I don't even like to knit in the summer unless I'm in an air conditioned room. The yarn sticks to my fingers and I get cranky. :D

  9. I loved the snow this morning as well. There's something about a pristine snow covered lawn! Then it had to go and melt.

I also loved your "all knowing" look you gave me yesterday as I took my kids down the hall!

  10. The C Word....that would be Crikey!!! in this neck of the woods for all that snow ;-) I am still learning how to turn the heel so only 1/2 a sock on the needles! Love your socks and the little hat and that picture of them against the snow, beautiful!!

How about a swap?? You knit me a pair of socks and I crochet all your Star Wars characters for you, have you had a go at them yet?? :-)

  11. Rachel you left a sweet comment on my blog, thank you...I wish I could send you some of our beautiful weather - oh your snow is beautiful - I do dream of it I have only seen it twice in my life once in Isreal whilst working on a kibbutz and another when I lived in London. I love your knits.. i began socks for Sasha but I think they might be ready for next winter.. the horses take up too much of my time. We are hardly indoors.

  12. Tami, :) I couldn't help but give you the 'knowing' smile when I saw what we saw through the window. I'd have given you a big diet coke right then and there if I had one! Brave woman!

Jenni, Crikey YES! And deal! Are you serious? For reals. You tell me what size, yarn, color(s),length, etc. and I will gladly knit you a swap!!

Earthboy, Welcome!!! How kind of you to visit! I can't imagine not having snow. As much as I comlain about the cold weather I have always had the seasons and I know I would miss them terribly.

Being outside and busy with the horses sounds quite delightful actually. Especially with your children at your side. That is where that "I wish" comes into play. If my health were different...... oh well. I'll live vicariously through you.

It may be fun for all ya'll grown ups, BUT WHAT ABOUT US! =P Sure ya think "young'ns love playing in the snow!"
    I say nay!
Snow means survival of the fitest. At school i'm begining to Swim in my gym class... This means EXTRA LARGE backpack stuffed with swimsuit, textbooks ect...
Puffy stuff to where on the treck to the bus, and boots that can take the snow! In all that I have to bring something for my wet hair so I dont get sick.
    sigh -_____-
    Spring! Where are you!
    =D

  18. Emma, Funny you should say that. Mr. T had a big snow ball he was eating yesterday.

Jess, Quit your whining. You forget, we adults walked to school in five feet of snow uphill both ways. We didn't have school buses like you! ;P

  19. I have just come to the conclusion that if it is going to be winter and in freezing temperatures that we may as well have snow. It is so much prettier than the dull grey lifelessness of the inbetween.

And, yes, an effortless Christmas, complete with Anony's music, would be the icing on the cake.

  20. Nat, AND!!! You forget. The snow covers all of the gross dog bombs. Another nice perk!

  21. The sight of those socks and hat on the line make me want to go yank my tree out of storage and set it up too--also the wire deer that are still unassembled in a box in my closer. I wouldn't mind a re-do of Christmas--as long as someone provides the extra money, and school will give me another three week break!

  22. Chazi, If someone else decorated and then put it all away.... I'd be all over it! The three weeks vacation I could live with as well. Here's to wishing......... !

  23. The socks and hat are positively dreamy, as is the photo! Now that I've tackled a cardigan with something that approaches success, I'm feeling brave enough to eventually say I WILL knit socks. Fun crazy-yarn socks. And yes, it is required that the socks make an appearance over the boots.

  24. WS-Wanderings, Your cardigan and all of its matching accessories :D turned out sooo cute. Socks will be no problem. Youtube rocks when it comes to tutorials. Not a problem and yes, socks worn with boots must be seen over the top. :D As I am a bit of an 'over the top' type of personality.
