We Does Love Levi

Levi's teacher sent home a big pamphlet/workbook that I needed to fill out and then send back to the school.  I've filled out this pamphlet several times over the years.  It is a workbook where I rate how Levi is doing in his progression in many categories.  Large motor skill, fine motor skill, communication, home/life skills, etc.  The list goes on.  It takes a little bit of time to fill out.

It would take a whole lot longer if the questions asked applied to Levi but as usual, I found myself marking the circles that were "Never" or "Very Little, requiring help".  In years past when I have filled out this form it has saddened me.  It's hard to fill in all of those circles saying your child doesn't do things that other kids his age do and take for granted that they do.  This time around though, it didn't bother me.  Last night at dinner Levi said, "How come everyone does love me so much"?  We all laughed and told him, "Because you're our Levi"!

Levi may not be able to do everything other children his age can do but one thing he can do that they can't, is the connection Levi has to animals.  All animals love Levi and are drawn to him.  Last week we were at a neighbor's house.  I looked over and there sat Levi with their cat perched happily on his belly purring and sleeping away.  No surprise.  This always happens.  Another thing Levi can do that no one his age can do is his ability to remember the names of every animal he comes across.  He knows several herd of horses names that he's come in contact with, he knows all of the neighbors dogs' names and cats' names, he knows animals' names that he's met only once and years later will see that person and walk up to them and ask them about their pet asking about the pet by name.  He can't remember the owner's name but he knows their connection with their pet and their pet's name.

Just another reason in a million why we does love Levi.

  1. Ah, Rachel...so much love. You know, if you can only have so much on your plateful of life, Levi has some of the choicest bits, doesn't he?

  2. There are treasures to be found if only we know where to look . . . and you do know where to look.

    1. I have to laugh at this Anaise because if there is one thing Levi is good at, it is hiding 'treasures'. If we can't find something I know to go and look in his dresser and sure enough, I usually find it along with several other items that have gone missing over time! So funny!

  3. Not everyone was put here on this earth to conform. I know that list is just a measurement tool, but all the same it is such a small part of the big picture. Skills and tools that make his character. He is already great. Levi has touched more lives than most adults who have lived a lifetime. Levi has unknowingly taught more profound lessons and instilled conviction in people across this globe. He continues to brighten someones day, each and every day. Family members and strangers alike. All blessings are wonderful, but some just seems to imprint to our soul. Levi is like that for me. No school can teach that. No form can have a circle for that. Levi is more grand that all of that. He is one of God's greatest blessings here on this earth and I could not think of a better family for him to share it with. You are all so blessed to have each other. I love you!

  4. Oh, I like that Jody! My work life is filled with assessments, tools, and forms and never, ever do they capture the soul of the person being written or circled about. And like Jody says, no form can do so. I want to say more here, but my brain is on overload at the moment. Maybe I can form a coherent comment some other time.

Levi and the cat are wearing the same expressions. Such comfort in each other. Beautiful.

    1. I like how Jody captured what Levi embodies. I think often we try to measure so many things by others and it's not right or fair. There are too many things we can't see or measure.

  5. Amen to what Jody expressed.

I've experienced Levi's connection to animals first-hand. I wonder if all animals remember him as he remembers them. I'm guessing the bond goes both ways.

Wow. This was written right before you lost Julie and nearly lost Levi in the process. Interesting how this showed up on your blog at such a juncture.
