Change

Change.  It happens.  Down came the fake log and rock wall paper.  Now I can see the old stenciling I'd done on my walls previous before the wall paper and the taupe from chair rail down.......  It's all going away too.  All of it.  GONE!  I want change and what mama wants........ she usually gets.

The wall with the big half circle window is now a pretty chocolate brown.  The rest of the walls are going to be painted an eggshellish white.  Clean.  I want clean.  From the looks of this last photo........  I really really really need clean!  Where's the couch??

  1. I was so sure your house was real log and stones! And then I thought you had added the stencils and I was kind of impressed (except it was way to girly for me). But, I'm with you and all about clean and simple these days. Can't wait to see the after it's all done photos! You know, the ones with the couch back in the living room... :-)

    1. Nope. Not real. I've always wanted real! I've always wanted a log home but that won't ever happen so I went with wall paper that looked log homeish.... That flower stenciling is ghastly isn't it? So not me. When we first bought this house I was still trying to figure out my style and what I liked and being raised in a Victorian style home I thought I liked that........ NOT! I put up the stencil and hated it almost from the get go. Didn't like the colors of my home.... not rustic enough. I'm very rustic. I was raised in the mountains on a ranch in an old Victorian farm house. :D The mountains are very much a part of who I am. I am at home in the mountains......... One wall is finished. Now the ceilings...... then the rest of the walls...... What I didn't mention is we are taking rustic wood and putting it up on my walls to make our house look framed in. Beams and the like. So excited for this project to be done!!! Taking FOREVER!!!! I'm doing the whole downstairs so the room with the wood stove, the kitchen, and the family room. Yikes!

    2. Oh, I know about house things taking FOREVER! At least I am not trying to live in mine at the same time....
I love the idea of real wood, rustic beams! It's going to be worth it all when it's done. Glad you didn't like the flower stencils either. :-)

  2. Change is good! It's fun to see you peel back the layers and take a trip down the memory lane of house decorating ;-)

    1. I can remember in the Darby house peeling off wallpaper in one of the bedrooms and seeing what Sherri and one of her friends had written on the walls in wallpaper paste. That was fun!!

  4. Wow, big change! I really like the light you get in the room in the last picture from those two big windows, it's a lovely room and will be even more so once it is all newly painted. Looking forward to seeing the pictures and keeping my fingers crossed that you keep most of your sanity during the doing!

    1. Amen! On the sanity part!! This is all taking way longer than intended (isn't that always the way). With my high vaulted ceilings it is taking forever because of all of the up and down the ladder and trying to juggle the paint while doing so and........ I wish I could wave a magic wand and make it all finish itself. We'll sure appreciate a clean house when all is said and done though. I just have to keep focusing on that.

  5. The chocolate wall is done and then I got the flu so everything is on stand still and a complete mess!! I'm looking forward to this being done! It is fun to think about accent colors and the like after I'm done painting.......

  6. Wow, you sure do dive into projects! Clean, that's exactly what I've been craving too. I just want simple and clean. Fresh but calm. If only it could bloody well do itself and be done. Our renos, they go on and on and on and on. Usually I'm pretty good with it, but sometimes I grow weary. Apparently I'm in a weary stage right now. But seeing you take on your home is inspiring.

I used to think the log was real too. It was mighty convincing in photos!

And I never thought I would have a log home either, then I found myself astonished at having one in my early twenties. So, you never know...

    1. At this moment my husband and oldest son are tackling the ceilings. Oy vey!!! Vaulted ceilings have never been so cursed and the next time I get a bright idea to change things up........... I'm either going to hire someone else to do it!!! Or I'm moving! This has been ridiculous!!!!

Slow doesn't even begin to describe. Me getting a sinus/cold icky stuff has set us back, way back and we have been living with the house turned upside down and furniture and junk either covered or moved into other rooms............. Wow! Next time I'm just burning the place down and starting over. Amazing how to get to the clean, it has to turn into a disaster first. Like all 'cleaning' projects...........
