Petunia!

Dear Miss Petunia,

I must beg of your forgiveness.  For years I have not liked you.  There.  I said it.  I have thought you a boring flower that everyone had in their yard and was the same lame colors.  I wanted more.  I wanted exotic!  I wanted spectacular!

Having many little natives and much responsibility I have come to appreciate your quiet, simple, easy, forgiving ways.  If I forget to water you, you don't shrivel up and die at the first sign of distress.  You are hardy and make a spectacular come back..  If one of The Natives steps on you, you bounce right back.  When Levi rides his bike over the top of you, you carry on and act as if nothing has happened.  When I've not been nice to you, you've been nice to me.

I have noticed over the last few years that you have been trying out some new colors and fashions.  I'm excited that you are experimenting and want to encourage you to keep experimenting.  I will support you and plant you all over my yard.  That's if you'll forgive me........ please?  Please forgive me for being snooty in my pick of flowers.

Humbly,
(re)Gretta

  1. Gardening is a funny thing sometimes. For me it's impatiens that seem so dull. Ridiculous really, such lovely blossoms that aren't greedy for sun...and all I see is *boring*. Petunias I like for their carefree attitudes, especially the spilling wave ones.

Are those all your flowers? Already? We've had huge frosts the last few weeks. Grrr.

    1. I guess it is a good thing there are so many flowers out there for all of us picky gardeners to choose from. :D

Those aren't all of my flowers. I've more. Those are the ones in my front yard at this point in time. We've not had frost but it has been unseasonably cold this year and is making all of the crops a bit late. I'm good with this weather. To me it has been perfect!!

    2. I prefer cool weather too. The heat makes me feel ill. And cranky. Terribly cranky. Today is one of those hot, cranky days. But you've made me giggle with the "I've more". Ha!

    3. Hahahahaha! I'm around kids too much!!

Hot, tired, and hungry makes me really REALLY cranky. I'm worse than the kids!

    1. Hi Skip! I went off FB for awhile. Kids are home for the summer. Want to spend my time with them. I haven't run my race yet. :) It is in two Saturdays. Argh!! Less than two weeks away!! Heaven help me! I'll be sure to write about it here though so you can get all of the knitty gritty details. :) You know me, if there are details that are gritty, I'll be sure to add them!!

  3. Love your colourful garden Rachel. It os funny how some flowers become 'unfashionable' but any flower that takes such a beating and still keeps blooming is a keeper!

    1. Oh my goodness. I've been gone for a week up camping in the mountains. I came home to my gardens FULL of weeds. I wish weeds were fashionable. :)
