Dieting

The SM says I have a skewed image of myself.  He says what I see in the mirror isn't what others see at all.  I don't know what he is talking about.  I know exactly what I look like!

    1. :) You and The SM would agree with each other and I would tell you both that you love me so you see me skewed. :D

  2. This is an actual thing, you know - not seeing faces right. Not recognizing yourself. I had to back up ten feet, looking at that image - I thought, "Who the heck is that??? Trying to figure out who, walking down the street, you'd have been taking a picture of - that I wouldn't recognize? B and I need to beat you up.

    1. Wait until I get there so I can help. I'm already feeling a little anxious about being the chubby friend!
I just keep trying to tell myself to smile and keep it all covered up fashionably....
Rachel, no more picture editing for you!

    2. I do that every time I look in the mirror! I back up ten feet and wonder who that is!

    3. Don't feel anxious Donna. Once you get here and meet us you'll realize you're the only sane one in the group. :D

  3. Did you know that some people actually don't see themselves at all in a mirror? They'll see everthing else reflecting in the mirror, but not their own image.

Body dysmorphia. Like Kristen said, it's real. In the extreme, it's diagnosed as body dysmorphic disorder. Ugh, here I am getting all pedantic. What am I trying to say? I guess just that it really is no joke. But sometimes we do have to laugh at ourselves - a reminder that at least we know on some level that our perception of our image *is* distorted. Which is better than NOT recognizing it as distortion, you know?

    1. That is actually fascinating. I had no idea. I mean, I knew that people saw themselves differently but..... to not see themselves at all. I didn't know that! Hmmmmmm. I wonder which is worse. Seeing yourself hugely distorted or not seeing yourself at all...........

You're right. Recognizing the distortion. That's somewhat healthier I hope!
