Readin' Writin' Rithmetic Lovin' and Compassion

"I'm running for Levi mom!" That is what Mr. M told me the day before the track meet. "I'm going to give all of my ribbons to Levi".

Yesterday Mr. M had a track meet. He's been working towards and preparing for this meet for months. So have several students at the elementary school where Mr. M goes and like Mr. M, they all chose someone to run for. Someone at their school who is handicapped and can't run. They wrote that persons initials on a red piece of tape and attached it to their sleeve as a reminder of who they were running for as they ran their races and competed.

And when they get their ribbons, they are giving them to the person they chose to run for.

I know reading, writing, and arithmetic are important but if you ask me, I'm pretty impressed with what these students have learned and shown this year about compassion and love to others who are maybe a little different.

  7. Yup, there are just some things that are more important than "readin' ritin' and 'rithmatic!"

I hope Levi loves his medals . . . I'm already sure he loves his brother.

  11. Natalie, When Mr. M told me I was quite touched myself!

    Denae, For special people! :)

Lyndee, You know, it's true. These kids really touched me because as you say, I think I spend most of my time wanting to smack them upside the head! It's nice to spend some time with ones who are so adorable.

Misty, We count our blessings everyday that we have Levi and when our kids do things like this well, let's just say, Mr. M isn't grounded anymore. :D

Ginna, I thought it was the coolest!

Chastina, There's hope you know. These kids are our future and so far, they're doing a pretty darn good job.

Anaise, When I go to parent teachers conferences, I do like to know how The Native's are doing academically but most of all, I want to know how they are doing as individuals. Meaning, are they kind, considerate, respectful, etc. The other stuff falls into place if the kids have integrity and are being "good". And yeah, Levi loves his brothers and sister a lot.

Uncle Rush, In all honesty, Mr. M is pretty much always like this. He's a good kid. And I'm grateful for him.

    Emma, I know! I agree!

Kristen, And his cheeks will get all flushed and rosy. :D Go for it!!

Mr. S, Thank you. The lighting is terrible but that is what you get when you are putting your camera on automatic and just trying to hurry and get the shot.

I thought the idea was fabulous!

  15. ...SO COOL!!! :D

Is there anything a mother could want more than kids that love each other?

I love the way you put lovin' and compassion with the 3 R's, and showed it in motion. Way to go with the greatest success story of all time. ;)

  16. Corine, It is at times like these when as a parent we can be grateful for the good and blessed moments. It keeps us going during the, "Who's turds are these and why are they in my house?" days. :D
