Rebel

It started with emails.  You know which ones I'm talking about.  The ones that would say terrible things would happen to you if you didn't pass them along but if you did!!  Well, then all of your dreams would come true, the cure for cancer would be found.......your great aunt's hairy mole on the end of her nose would disappear...... or (and these are my favorite) the emails that talk about what an amazing friend/person you are.  Send them to all of your friends and back to the person who sent it to you and then watch and be amazed at how many send them back to you because you're so WONDERFUL AND POPULAR!

I'm a rebel.  DELETE!

Now, it's Facebook.  The statuses that tell us all to copy and paste in our own status if we feel that.........  ya da ya da ya da ya da ya da and if we don't then we must not be proud of our country, our religion, our plumber, or our great aunt's hairy toes.

I'm a rebel.  I REFUSE!

A few years ago it was brought to my attention, this really cool stuff that you could put on your eye lashes and it would make them grow a mile long and so thick and lush your shag carpet would be jealous.   I wanted some!  My eyelashes are 'okay' but they aren't fabulous!  At first the stuff was hard to come by.  Now, anyone can get it and............. every where I look, I now see women with mile long eyelashes so lush and thick my shag carpet is jealous.  Now that so many are doing it........  I don't wanna!

I'm a rebel. NO THANKS!

Why am I such a rebel?  Why do I literally run in the other direction when the crowd is going in the other direction.  Funny.  Because I don't want to be labeled.  I don't want to swept away in the mainstream.  I don't like others making statements for me.  I don't like to look like everyone else.

I like originality.  I like making statements because I feel a certain way, not because I copy and pasted someone elses statement even if I agree with it!

I think this all goes back to the grey hair...........  I hate coloring my hair because society says a 30 something year old woman shouldn't have grey hair..........  I hate society dictating how I should look, think, feel, etc.

Guess I'm not as rebellious as I'd like to think I am since I'm still coloring my hair...........  but don't tell anyone.  We'll keep it our little secret.

I'M A REBEL!  Copy and paste this blog if you agree that being a rebel is cool!  If you don't, your toes will get all hairy like your great aunts and a big lumpy hairy mole will appear on the end of your nose at the strike of twelve midnight tonight!

  2. Why can't I write a blog, I wonder? I'm just sitting like a lump. I need to rebel against = whatever. That. And gray streaks look great on you, so you're crazy. And I do all that stuff too - so if we're rebels together, does that compromise our rebelity? I even yelled at somebody on the phone the other day who wanted to talk to my married son who doesn't live here and hasn't for a year and called him by his name of record, not the name we use - so definitely was selling something or doing a survey - and every time I said, what do you want, she said, Is J there? When will he be back? What relation are you to him? I should have said, "What the h relation do YOU think you are to him?" But instead, I kept saying, "This is a cell phone. You are costing me money. Take him off your list. Take this number of your list." But she went on as if I weren't saying anything. Like a computer, but too human sounding to be one. Finally, I held the phone away from my ear and yelled, "GET OFF MY PHONE> TAKE US OFF YOUR LIST> NEVER CALL AGAIN," and I had to do it twice because she just kept asking the same questions. Then I hung up on her, panting. I hope she was a democrat.

    1. Oh my gosh this is the best response EVER! You have me howling!!!

My question is: Does this make me a rebel WITH a cause? Or WITHOUT a cause.........?

  5. OH MY Gosh some more! You two crack me up. And I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I, too, refuse to do what I'm told even under threat of dire circumstances sure to come my way any moment now. So, how many rebels in a group before we have to start rebelling against each other????
This is exactly the reason why I do NOT like the color blue...when I was growing up it was EVERYONE'S favorite color...not for me, then. This is exactly why I can barely shop in a mall.
This is exactly why I am one of only 2 girls in my high school graduating class with pixie cut hair instead of flowing (or was that fluffy in '74?) tresses.
And I have weathered the stress of my kids drawing me and coloring my hair bright shiny yellow, to brown to almost gray!
We are rebels just BE cause!

  6. Hmmmm. I delete those emails, too. And I keep trying to come up with the courage to put all of those hair dye chemicals into my hair because I'm gray enough that when I was 3 weeks post-partum but went out without the baby because he was sleeping and it was cold out a lady at a local thrift store offered me a senior discount.

It's not so much rebelling in my case as . . . I dunno . . . what do you think it is?

    1. Are you kidding me??? A SENIOR DISCOUNT???? You do NOT look like you could qualify for a senior discount.

It's not rebelling in your case. You're sensible! It is one of those things I wish I'd never started...... and yet........ I feel like I'm only like........ 20ish!! So when I see my grey hair it makes me CRINGE!!!

  7. I'm not even ON Facebook, so I guess I'm a rebel. A wild, out of control, motorcycling on my own path, tattooed, farm living, yarn dyeing, bread baking, non-Facebooking rebel. Yeah, and I'm somebody's mother.

You got me chuckling, as usual.

    1. I knew this about you. Rebels don't like to ride alone..... which kind of defeats the purpose of this whole post doesn't it? ;)

  8. I am behind in reading, does that make me a rebel or just slack?? I have dreads and tattoos for goodness sake....I don't think I need to ask myself that question. When I did my dreads my girlfriend who has gone totally white, had her hair cut and stopped the dye jobs....she looks awesome. The kids took a photo of us on that day and we look great, its one of my favourite photos. My Billy often tells me that all my friends are not part of the flock, that they are strange just like me and I turn to him and say well you married me what does that say about you?? He just laughs as he has never been part of the flock either :-)

    1. It depends. What have you been doing that has kept you from reading? :D If you've been away from blog land because you've been caught up in Kristen's book well then, I'd say you've been very rebellious. Delightfully so! :)

I laugh with The SM all of the time about being a strange duck and him marrying me. I'm always telling him, "You knew that before you married me"!!!!!
