Baby William

My baby sis had her baby.  She had a darling little baby boy.  I'd hold it against her, not having a girl and all, but I'd be a hypocrite considering how many baby boys I had and love dearly.

So, instead of frills and ruffles and flowers............ I made a fisherman's cable knit sweater for baby Will.  I figured I'd make it big enough he can wear it this winter.  That was until my baby sis told me how much my nephew weighs already!  He's very petite and tiny with all of his sumo chub, chins, rolls, and deliciousness.

I asked my baby sis what in the world she was feeding my nephew and she told me she has him on a strict diet of pure cream!

I got the pattern for this sweater out of the, 60 Quick Baby Knits book and used Plymouth Encore DK Yarn in a charcoal grey color.

Don't worry Alex....... I've not forgotten your baby!

My family is having babies way too fast for my knitting fingers to keep up!!!

  1. That is amazing...but, I can't tell how big it is. You are so talented! That neck is very cool and baby Will is going to look stunning in this! How lucky is he? Almost makes me want to have babies....oh, no, maybe not. Maybe I just want sweaters! Love you.

    1. My baby sis is going to have to put her baby in the sweater and take a photo so we can all tell the size. I thought the same thing after I saw the photos I'd taken. Doesn't really show the size.........

FUNNY! I had a dream last night that you just reminded me of! I decided I was oober baby hungry and then I remembered I had a hysterectomy and was bummed.

Maybe all this baby knitting is my way of making up for feeling jipped in that department. :D Jipped........ I know....... there are women who would love to have one child and I'm moaning because I've already had a cajillion and want more. Some people just can't be satisfied.............

      Love you too. :D

    2. And you are such a GREAT momma! I spent time with another great momma today...I taught both her boys. You know what I think makes a great momma? The ones that find their joy in being with their kids! The ones that are able to put aside self...or maybe that isn't right....maybe their self IS the one that wants to be with their kids as they grow and discover and become....
And then I think about being a teacher and trying to build up those littles who didn't have great mommas for whatever reason....to give them the joy and the confidence that comes from being loved with your presence more than your presents. So, that's what I think....and how the heck did this get on a sweet knitted sweater post???? Can't wait to see Will in his gift.

    3. :) I think being a teacher is pretty darn close to being a parent. I think of how many hours my children spend with their teachers during the school year. The influence those teachers have on my children's lives.

You're wonderful Donna. I know it's not the same as having children of your own but you have been 'mother' to so many and their lives are greatly blessed because of it.

    1. You can knit while you're sitting at the flea market? :D Finding balance. That's a tough one for all of us!

  3. That's beautiful. I wish my Megan could come spend some time with you. She's trying to teach herself how to purl. She's struggling, and I'm not a knitter.

    2. I'm glad Donna replied because that is exactly how I would steer you. Not that I wouldn't love to have your Megan spend time with me. :) That would be delightful!

I use youtube all of the time! In fact, I used it the other night because I forgot how to make a certain type of increase stitch!

How are you holding up with your little one?

    3. Thanks for the tip. We've bookmarked a great youtube video that she's going to study tomorrow. And my little man is just perfect--6 months old already and too cute for words.

  4. I have to read your and Donna still - but ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Are you KIDDING me? You MADE this? I thought you had to be an old lady expert incredible Irish person to make things like this? Why didn't you tell me you were doing this? Were you afraid I'd make you go lie down instead? STOP SURPRISING ME. I'm getting a headache and a terrible case of inferiority.

    1. I know, right? Both of you are giving me anxiety attacks. Lucky thing I like to hang out with people who are better than me at things....

    2. I feel old, I have Irish blood, and I'm an expert at SOMETHING! (Not sure what...... I'll get back to you on that one). That works doesn't it?

You are so funny!! Considering I'm sitting and resting while I'm knitting. It would be awfully hard to lie down while knitting.

Donna!!!! You're crazy! The stuff you do!!!! Pfffffft! INCREDIBLE! So no back talking!
