Let's go shopping!

When I was a little girl I loved to go into my mother's bedroom and look at a piece of artwork that she had on her dresser. Every so often she would tell me to dust her dresser. I loved to because it meant that I could sit and stare at a dish much like this one. I wonder where my mother got hers and the story behind it. She still has it today. It now sits in the kitchen on an old buffet of my grandmother's. My mother's Soup Tureen has more of an octagonal handle but it is very similar to this one.

My mother has her soup tureen sitting on a platter much like this one. When I go home to visit I secretly covet and stare at the soup tureen. I don't know why but I am really taken with the art work and elegance of these dishes.

And now look what I've found! Table clothes, napkins, and seat cushions to go with!

I can't decide which color I like best. The red would be wonderful in the fall and winter, the yellow in the spring, and the blue in the summer.....

I think I really need one of each don't you?

Oh Nelly! And matching rugs!

Actually, after browsing I think I'm leaning more to the blue......what do you think? That's what I thought. Too hard to choose. Let's go back and look at some more dishes. Much less confusing...sort of.....cuz I need them all too.

Actually, if one were to break it down into needs and wants.....I NEED all of these dishes......I WANT all of the colors of table cloths, napkins, chair cushion even though we sit on benches and not chairs, and rugs because one should not be greedy...I could live with just one color.....if I HAD to.

Just look at the detail! I would serve fresh squeezed orange juice from this pitcher every single morning if I had one of these...and a yellow table cloth to go with....or blue.....not red though....I'd save the red for in the evening.

Picture heaped up mashed potatoes with tons of melted butter oozing down into this serving bowl or a serving of ice cream with hot fudge melting down....HEY! Who am I to judge your serving size. Don't judge mine okay? I'm speaking "hypothetically"...cough....yup....hypothetically....

Because there is always this size. We all know the truth though. When you have company over you set this soup bowl out because you don't want anyone to know that you actually use the serving bowl for ice cream. Admit it! I'm not the only one! Am I! AM I!!!! Am I? Ya......whatever.........

Can't have bowls with out plates. Dying here! Look at the little castle! If I had these dishes I would be queen of that castle I am telling you. QUEEN!

And everyone knows a queen can't live without accessories! Do you know what this is? It is a trivet. Do you know what a trivet is? No? That is okay, I figured you didn't so I looked it up myself just to be sure I was teaching you correctly. It's what you put down under our hot dishes of mashed potatoes or brownies or roast..or...you get the idea so we don't burn a hole in our purty table cloth! Thaz what a turret is......I mean trivet....sorry.....I was thinking I was in a castle or something.

Salt anyone? How adorable is this? I couldn't possibly live without one of these! Everyone needs a salt holder thingy that your daughter could steal when you're not looking and use as a royal couch for her barbie and guess what? It's on sale right now at Williams Sonoma where all of the rest of these delicious dishes are sold and several other pieces I didn't show you but I need. Shall we?

  4. Those dishes are simply divine....
I'm serious. Your mother deserves sincere admiration, that in a house full of children she was able to preserve a beautiful breakable. Nothing of value survived my childhood, my mother, however began new collections after we grew...Just in time for the grandchildren.
P.S. You are correct, you need both color schemes Red is perfect for winter, fall, and 4th of July summer. That leaves yellow for spring and the rest of summer. It only makes sense.
    Shell.

  6. But what kind of dishes are they? They look like tapestry or something. Not quite Provence, but something like. I've never seen them before. Maybe they are Provence. Who makes 'em? Are they Francaise???
